Bulgaria and Romania have lowest minimum wages in EU

The gross minimum wage expressed in euro has doubled in Bulgaria and Romania in the last nine years but the two Eastern European countries still had by far the lowest minimum wages in the European Union on January 1, 2017.

Unemployment rate reaches lowest level after 2008 in Romania

The number of unemployed people in Romania significantly dropped in December last year, by 14,444 compared to the previous month, reaching 506,758. It is a new minimum level after the onset of the economic crisis in 2008.

The average net salary in Romania went up by 9.5 percent last year to RON 1,859 compared with 2014 and the women earned 7 percent less than men, says a release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
