Eurostat: Romania, steepest drop in construction works

Romania has registered the most significant decline in construction works within the European Union in July 2014, compared to the same period last year, according to the data presented on Wednesday by the European Statistics Office (Eurostat).

The government aims to cut the construction tax enforced this year from 1.5 percent to 1 percent, with collected funds to be distributed to local authorities, said Ioana Petrescu, the minister of finance.

The volume of construction works dropped by 9.6% in the first five months

The volume of construction works, gross series, dropped by 9.6% in the first five months, recording drops in capital repair works by 20.1%, the maintenance and current repair works by 11.4% and new construction by 6.5% according to INS.
