The Budget Commission within the Chamber of Deputies endorsed on September 2 the review request of the Tax Code with amendments agreed by leaders of parliamentary parties, as well as with a number of amendments proposed by the Ministry of Finance.

These included the possibility to increase the tax on unattended buildings and land plots by 500%, reports local Hotnews.ro. Each local authority can decide the level of this tax, which can’t exceed the maximum threshold set by the Fiscal Code.

During the talks in the Budget Commission, Dan Manolescu, State Secretary in the Finance Ministry, requested that this amendment be reintroduced in the Fiscal Code.

Local authorities have asked for this tax increase in order to penalize those who leave their houses in ruin in order to determine them to renovate or sell. (source: Romania-insider.com)
