With regard to the number of transactions, centralizing them and those with undeclared value, 28 acquisitions were announced, on average, two each week. Compared to the same period last year, the value of transactions tripled and their number increased by 20%.

"In the first nine months of the year, the M & A market has already reached two billion euros, and what is even more impressive, the total was not achieved thanks to mega-transactions, but thanks to six transactions between 100 and 500 million euros. The last quarter is, according to the historical trend, the most important one in the year and, given the transactions currently being negotiated, we expect to add another one billion euros altogether", said Ioana Filipescu, a Deloitte merger and acquisition consultant partner in Romania.

During this period, the average value of a transaction was 56 million, highlighting the upward trend in the value of merger and acquisition transactions. Because many transactions have undeclared values, Deloitte has attempted to assign an estimated value to each of them to determine the total value of the merger and acquisitions market in Romania. Thus, in the third quarter of the year, the total value of the merger and acquisition market is estimated to be between 1.1-1.2 billion euros.

At the same time, five transactions were announced in this quarter, each with a value of more than 100 million euros, and four of them also benefited from a performance that has not been recorded in the past two years, says Deloitte.

The acquisition of Radisson hotel complex by Revetas Capital for the amount of 177.5 million was the largest transaction of the quarter.

The acquisition of the minority stake held by Fondul Proprietatea in its subsidiaries by Electrica, worth 165 million euros, was the second largest transaction of the quarter. The acquisition is part of the ownership of the Proprietatea Fund.

The acquisition of a subsidiary of the Hungarian firm Invitel by Digi Communications is one of the rare international transactions concluded by a Romanian company, notably given its value of 140 million euros.

OTP's acquisition of Bank of Romania, with a value of around 100 million euros, is the largest banking transaction in the past two years.

The study includes the announced transactions during the relevant period with declared value or estimated to be between 5 and 500 million euros. Transactions below this limit are not considered relevant to the Romanian merger and acquisition market, and over-the-limit are mega-transactions that have an impact that may distort the quarterly analysis.
