The Czech utility company CEZ completed the 600 megawatt Fantanele–Cogealac wind farm in Romania. CEZ invested €1.1bn in the facility, reportedly the largest in Europe, which took less than two and a half years to finish. The farm is located about 17 km from the Black Sea in the country’s Dobrogea region. CEZ acquired the project from Continental Wind Partners LLC in August 2008. CEZ said it plans to build a 700 megawatt wind farm in Poland, having recently acquired a majority stake in Eco-Wind Construction, which has fifteen ongoing projects in different stages around the country.
