Billa is present on the Romanian market since February 1999, when its first supermarket in Bucharest was opened.

The stores chain currently includes more than 70 units in Romania. The company is part of German group REWE, active in the retail and tourism sectors and present in 13 European countries. At the middle of October 2012, Cocor has announced that BCR is preparing the foreclosure of the commercial centre and that a selling bid will be organized, with a starting price of approx. EUR 30 million.

The technical expertise report was initially established at EUR 42 million, but BCR has diminished the price, had declared the Cocor representatives. Furthermore, BCR has approved the suspension of the foreclosure for Cocor. The commercial centre is owned by the investment fund Broadhurst Investments (13.32%), SIF Transilvania (10.24%), SIF Muntenia (10%), Daniel Stoica (14.66%), Liviu Ursan (14.83%), Aurel Beşliu (over 7%).
